Cowboys' Flournoy? How Many WRs Does Dallas Keep?

    By Adam Schultz,

    2024-08-26

Dallas Cowboys rookie receiver Ryan Flournoy has been hitting all the right notes in training camp, and when the preseason games began, he took his game up a level.

While he was only on the field for short periods, Flournoy has improved with each game to the point where he has genuine claims for a roster spot.

In Dallas' first preseason outing against the Los Angeles Rams, Flournoy totaled two catches for eight yards. He followed that up with four catches, 23 yards, and a touchdown against the Las Vegas Raiders before another strong showing against the Los Angeles Chargers, hauling in three catches for 30 yards and another touchdown.

Flournoy's preseason work has been so impressive that he has made a strong case to be part of the Cowboys' offense in 2024.

“Flo [Flournoy] missed some time there in training camp, but boy he's bounced back so strong,” McCarthy said. “Such a physical player, tough, smart player, but yes you know just without seeing the video [from Chargers game], I was impressed again.”

With roster cuts beginning, Flournoy hopes he's done enough to secure his spot. But with the Cowboys' receiver room looking rather stacked, the coaching staff will have to make a tough decision.

CeeDee Lamb, Brandin Cooks, and Jalen Tolbert are the top three on the depth chart, and KaVontae Turpin is surely in ...  but then after that, Jalen Brooks, Flournoy, Jalen Cropper, Tyron Billy-Johnson, and Racey McMath are among the chasing pack.

One could argue that aside from Brooks, Flournoy had the best offseason out of the group mentioned and, perhaps more importantly, in live action, has looked like a genuine option in the passing game.

Time will tell if Flournoy will be part of the Cowboys in 2024, with roster cuts looming, but his body of work suggests that he should be part of Dallas' receiver room.
