The New England Patriots finished up their preseason schedule on Sunday with a 20-10 loss against the Washington Commanders .

Among the stories of the night was the performance of rookie quarterback Drake Maye. After playing just one series in the first preseason game and showing some flashes during the second, Maye saw extended action on Sunday night and did some extremely impressive things.

On his first drive of the night , Maye led an 88-yard touchdown drive that saw him use both his arm and his legs to move the ball and make some eye-popping plays. Later in the second quarter on Maye's final drive of the night, he was able to find a connection with fellow rookie Javon Baker .

Baker caught a strike from Maye for a first down then would cut and spin around a defender to extend the play into a 17-yard gain and give New England a chance to put points on the board:

Baker was a fourth-round selection out of Central Florida and will look to be a key factor right away in New England's wide receiver room.

The drive would stall out after a penalty by the offensive line wiped out a long touchdown pass from Maye to K.J. Osborn shortly after Baker's reception.

This was the final preseason game for the New England Patriots. The Pats finish the preseason at 1-2 after winning the opening game against the Carolina Panthers 17-3 and falling last week to the Philadelphia Eagles 14-13. The team will have until August 27th before they must cut the roster to 53 players in preparation for Week 1 of the NFL Regular season. The Patriots will open the year on the road at Paycor Stadium against the Cincinnati Bengals on September 8th at 1 PM EST.
