Representing the City of Angels, the Lakers and Clippers had a common venue for hosting home games for the longest time. It's no secret that the Purple and Gold franchise remained a fan favorite, with the latter always bearing the brunt of being the so-called step-child of LA or the team in the basement.

The Lakers-Clippers enmity witnessed a landmark event this off-season, courtesy of the Steve Ballmer franchise shifting base to Inglewood. The former Microsoft CEO built a $2 billion home arena set to redefine match viewing, boosting their age-old effort of individual branding.

Shedding light on the development, Lakers owner Jeanie Buss suggested it was a win-win move for both organizations.

    "Nothing's really changed"

The Lakers President doesn’t make too much of the Clippers exit, having the following to say :

“I mean, we moved in that building first, then the Clippers moved in, and now they’ve moved out," said Buss. “So, nothing’s really changed for us at all. I just didn’t realize how long it was going to take the rest of the league to realize that we have more home games.”

By having more home games, the Santa Monica native means that during Lakers-Clippers matchups, even if the latter was the designated home team, there was equal if not more support for the purple and gold.

However, Buss is grateful for having complete independence in terms of running the show at Crypto. Therefore, it is a mutually beneficial scenario for both LA ball clubs, with the Lakers finally getting a taste of being the away team in a contest against the Clippers.

    Clippers new home

Described as a state-of-the-art facility, the Intuit Dome is Ballmer’s love letter to Clippers Nation. Situated in Inglewood, the new home arena offers never before amenities, with some of them being a USP charging port in every seat, 3x the toilets compared to other NBA arenas, and not to forget the ‘Halo Board.’

In what seems like, this is Ballmer’s ode to making it up to the fans. The dome is already scheduled to host the 2026 All-Star weekend and 2028 Olympics.
