Drake Maye's 'Shoeless' First Down Pass Goes Viral

    By Cole Sullivan,

New England Patriots rookie quarterback Drake Maye had an extremely solid performance Sunday night, but out of all the impressive things he did, stepping up into the pocket after losing one of his shoes and completing a first down pass may have been the best of them all.

Maye ended the night completing 13 of 21 passes for 126 passing yards and a touchdown. He has now made the decision to pick a Week 1 starter for head coach Jerod Mayo a lot more drastic and controversial. Especially after Brissett left the game with a minor shoulder injury.

His shoeless pass also caught some serious attention. Surpassing  530,000 views on the NFL's X account in just over ten hours.

The arm talent was never in question for Drake Maye, but now he is starting to read defenses better and simply look more comfortable in the pocket every snap he takes.

Originally, many believed that Brissett would be the Week 1 starting quarterback and Maye would slowly progress into the role. But now, things may have changed. Maye was easily the best quarterback on the field throughout the preseason for the Patriots and has begun to cause a stir.

Over the next week or so, Mayo will have to make a decision for who will get the nod week 1 when the team heads to Cincinnati for a matchup with the Bengals in less than two weeks.
