Jim Harbaugh has handed over the reins for roster cuts to general manager Joe Hortiz as the Los Angeles Chargers prepare for final decisions ahead of the NFL's deadline. Harbaugh emphasized his trust in Hortiz, who has been closely monitoring not only the Chargers but also players across the league.

"Joe Hortiz, he's going to run it," Harbaugh said via the team's transcript . "I want him to do it because he's watching everybody, not only on our team but every other team. I'm going to play Robin to his Batman. We trust Joe, he's the best in the business."

The Chargers, like all NFL teams, must finalize their rosters by Tuesday afternoon, trimming down to 53 players. Harbaugh pointed out that the roster dynamics have changed since his last stint in the league, particularly with the expanded practice squad, which allows the team to carry up to 17 additional players. This effectively increases the roster size to 70.

"The best players. The best 53 that we can," Harbaugh said. "It's so different since when I was last in the league because it's really not 53 anymore."

The Chargers' final preseason game ended with a 26-19 victory over the Dallas Cowboys, a crucial matchup for many players vying for a spot on the team. Veteran safety Tony Jefferson stood out with an impressive performance, recording 14 tackles, two interceptions, a forced fumble, and a sack. His strong showing was particularly notable after missing the previous game due to a hamstring injury.

As the Chargers move forward, the focus will be on selecting the best players to fill the roster, while also considering the depth provided by the expanded practice squad.
