Lando Norris has made it clear that he isn't focused on the Formula 1 championship, even after his impressive victory at the Dutch Grand Prix.

The McLaren driver, who started from pole position, won the race by a significant margin but remains realistic about his chances in the title race.

Norris had a strong start but lost his lead to reigning champion Max Verstappen early on.

Despite McLaren's notable improvements this season, he emphasizes the importance of consistent performance rather than getting caught up in championship discussions.

He set the fastest lap of the race on his final lap, showcasing his skill even on used hard tires. His winning margin of nearly 23 seconds was the largest for a non-Verstappen victory since Lewis Hamilton's win in Saudi Arabia in 2021.

When asked about his title prospects by Autosport , Norris pointed out that he is still significantly behind Verstappen in points. He believes it's premature to think about the championship and insists on taking it one race at a time.

“I've been fighting for the championship since the first race of the year. There's no sudden decision now.

“I need to do better. I've been working hard the whole year and I'm still 70 points behind Max. So it's pretty stupid to think of anything at the minute. I just take one race at a time and just keep doing what I'm doing now because there's no point in thinking ahead and thinking of the rest.

“I don't care about it at the minute. I'm just focused on one race at a time, so it's not a question that I need to get asked every single weekend.”

Looking ahead to the Italian Grand Prix, Norris is cautious about repeating his success. He acknowledges that any of the top teams, including Ferrari and Mercedes, could perform well on race day.

He recognizes Ferrari's strong showing at the Dutch Grand Prix and notes that Red Bull faced challenges.

Norris's approach is straightforward: focus on the present and work hard without speculating about future races. He understands the unpredictability of the sport and is committed to maintaining his competitive edge as the season progresses.

"There's no point thinking how we're going to do next weekend," he said. "We'll just get there and work hard and wait till we get there. There's no point thinking ahead."
