Cowboys vs. Browns: The Micah Parsons Plan

    By Wil Riggs,

DALLAS – With the preseason in the rearview mirror, the Dallas Cowboys can now turn their sights to their regular-season opener on Sunday, Sept. 8. The Cowboys will travel to Cleveland to play the Browns in the FOX NFL Game of the Week.

On Monday, the Cowboys caught a break with the announcement that Nick Chubb would start the season on the PUP list and not be available for Cleveland until Week 5.

Throughout the preseason, the Browns have suffered devastating injuries along the offensive line, leading Cleveland to sit quarterback Deshaun Watson out of the entire preseason.

Watson underwent season-ending shoulder surgery after Week 6 last year. He has been cleared for contact, but was held out as a precaution due to the offensive line difficulties.

To some, leaving Watson out as a precaution may end up burning the Browns when the real lights come on. And in that vein? The Cowboys and defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer should only have one plan.

    Turn. Micah. Loose.

Watson hasn’t had played in a live game in nearly 10 months and hasn’t been hit or tackled the entire preseason. Putting him out there behind a shoddy offensive line against this defensive front featuring Micah is part of the deal ... but it is also a "football danger.''

The Browns running game might struggle because the offensive line is bad and Jerome Ford will be the feature back - and he's no Chubb. There might just be a lot of passing opportunities for Cleveland, which means a lot of sack opportunities for Parsons.

Parsons declared earlier this preseason that he wanted to win Defensive Player of the Year. Of course, Parsons declares a lot of things. But ... Playing against a subpar offensive front and a quarterback that hasn’t even been hit in 10 months - even as the Browns are a one-point favorite here - could provide an opportunity to start the season off right for Dallas.
