As the Michigan Wolverines gear up for their clash with the Fresno State Bulldogs this weekend, head coach Sherrone Moore took center stage at Monday's media session to shed light on key aspects of the team. From the ongoing quarterback battle to standout players, Moore's insights provide a glimpse into what to expect as the Wolverines tackle their next opponent.

    Quarterback Quandary: Orji vs. Warren

The quarterback situation remains a hot topic, with Moore revealing that while the coaching staff is “close” to making a decision, no starter has been named yet. Alex Orji and Davis Warren are currently the top contenders, but Moore isn't ruling out a potential two-quarterback system.

“We’ll see,” he said , drawing a comparison to Tim Tebow and Chris Leak’s success at Florida. However, Moore also acknowledged that a two-quarterback system can be a gamble. “We’re going to do whatever it takes to win,” he added, emphasizing the team's commitment to finding the most effective strategy.

    Defensive Focus: Containing Mikey Keene

On the defensive side of things, Moore highlighted Fresno State quarterback Mikey Keene as a key player to watch. To counter Keene's offensive prowess, Moore stressed the importance of creating a chaotic environment. The defense will need to mix things up to “make it messy for him,” a strategy designed to disrupt the Bulldogs' rhythm and put pressure on Keene.

    Talent Spotlight: Linebackers and Secondary

Linebacker Jimmy Rolder is generating buzz as a potential top linebacker in the country, according to Moore. Rolder’s impressive performance in fall camp has him positioned as one of the first linebackers off the bench this season. Meanwhile, in the secondary, Zeke Berry has been making headlines with his “wow plays” and is expected to see significant playing time. Moore also praised Brandyn Hillman for his “elite traits” and progress this offseason.

Behind the Scenes: Connor Stalions Documentary and Offensive Line

With the release of the Connor Stalions documentary on Netflix just around the corner, Moore made it clear that his focus remains on the field. “I’ll be watching film,” he quipped, keeping his attention firmly on the game rather than the media buzz.

In terms of the offensive line, redshirt freshman Evan Link and redshirt sophomore Andrew Gentry are the top contenders for the right tackle position. For the starting center job, redshirt juniors Greg Crippen and Dominic Giudice are leading the charge.

Emerging Players: Wide Receivers and Tight Ends

The WR3 spot is still up for grabs, with Fred Moore, Kendrick Bell, and CJ Charleston currently leading the race. At tight end, Marlin Klein, along with Colston Loveland and Max Bredeson, are making waves. Klein, who made Bruce Feldman’s college football freaks list, is expected to play a significant role this season.

    Under the Radar: TJ Guy

One player who might not be getting enough attention is redshirt junior edge TJ Guy. Moore highlighted Guy’s strong offseason performance, noting that he has received multiple shoutouts from coaches and players. Expect Guy to be a key contributor this season.
