On Monday, Aug. 26, it was announced that New York Mets minor-leaguer A.J. Ewing has been named Florida State League Player of the Week. This isn't the only time he has won this type of award. He won the Florida Complex League back on June 2, in which he got promoted shortly afterward.

It certainly is well-deserved for the 20-year-old from Kettering, OH. Ewing had hit a walk-off grand slam in a minor league game yesterday, in which the St. Lucie Mets were down one run with two outs until he came up clutch with power. In yesterday's game, besides the grand slam, he went two for four with a double and a walk and also scored a run.

Ewing was drafted by the Mets in the 2023 MLB June Amateur Draft from Springboro, OH as the 134th overall pick in the fourth round. In the minor leagues this season, he has put up a .283 batting average and a .776 OPS in 281 at-bats. That includes 10 home runs, 44 RBIs, and 10 stolen bases.

Ewing is a player who can play essentially everywhere in the infield. He is known to play shortstop, second and third base. He could very well be useful in the big leagues for the Mets, in which he would just add more depth to the infield. However, he has only played in 88 minor league games, so it's likely going to be a while for him to work his way toward the majors.

As of now, the Mets team and organization should be very pleased about their young prospect and the progression that he is making.
