Angel Reese’s NBA Comparison Is Turning Heads

    By Paolo Mariano,

In just her debut season, Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese already established herself as a dominant rebounder in the WNBA.

On Sunday, she became the first-ever player in league history to record three straight 20-rebound games after grabbing a career-high 22 boards in their loss to the Las Vegas Aces.

The 22-year-old Reese currently leads the WNBA with 12.9 rebounds per game.

Because of her rebounding prowess, many fans have compared Reese to Philadelphia 76ers center Andre Drummond.

Drummond is one of only seven players in NBA history to lead the league in rebounding at least four times. Others are Wilt Chamberlain, Dennis Rodman, Moses Malone, Dwight Howard, Bill Russell and Kevin Garnett.

"Angel Reese reminds me of 2018 Andre Drummond," one fan said.

"Those Angel Reese-Andre Drummond comps looking kind of facts," another fan posted.

"If she can dramatically improve her shooting, she might be on (the) level of Andre Drummond," an observer added.

Several fans, however, didn't agree with the Reese-Drummond comparison. Some even mocked it.

"Every time I see somebody comparing Angel Reese to Andre Drummond, I be dying laughing," one X user wrote.

"The logic behind the Angel Reese discourse right now is like saying Andre Drummond is an elite big man," a fan added. "Elite rebounder, yes, but there’s more to the game!"

"Angel Reese is a top 20 player in the WNBA," another one added. "Andre Drummond (has) never even been a top 50 player in the NBA."

"Just seen somebody call Angel Reese sexy Andre Drummond," one fan commented.

Others also pointed out that Drummond is a much better scorer than Reese, who's shooting at a woeful 38.7% clip from the field. Drummond, on the other hand, has a career average of 54.3%.

Still, Reese's tenacity on the boards has been a game-changer for the Sky, who are presently in eighth place in the team standings with an 11-18 record.
