The Detroit Lions made some notable roster cuts on Monday after another week of preseason action, and a former star member of the Michigan Wolverines was among the players who got the unfortunate phone call.

Wide receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones was reportedly released ahead of what will be his fourth season in the NFL. Peoples-Jones was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in 2020, and played there until getting traded to the Lions a year ago.

Last year, Peoples-Jones had just five catches for 58 yards in eight games with Detroit. In his career, Peoples-Jones has 122 total catches for 1,895 yards and 8 TDs.

Peoples-Jones was competing in a very crowded wide receiver room in Detroit this year, playing alongside the likes of Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams. In the preseason, he struggled in his limited action, catching only two of his nine targets for a total of 31 yards.

There's a chance that Peoples-Jones gets picked up by another team this preseason, but if not he will likely be signed to a practice squad, potentially in Detroit.
