Steelers Continue Roster Cuts with K Matthew Wright, 2 Others

Early on Monday, the P ittsburgh Steelers announced they had cut eight players , including offensive lineman Tyler Beach, receiver Jacob Copeland, running back Daijun Edwards, offensive lineman Devery Hamilton, receiver T.J. Luther, defensive lineman Marquiss Spencer, linebacker Kyahva Tezino and defensive back Kiondre Thomas.

Hours later, they continued their efforts to chop the roster to 53 before the deadline of Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET.

Pittsburgh announced they cut kicker Matthew Wright, defensive back Kyler McMichael and offensive lineman Anderson Hardy.

It was Wright's fourth stint with the Steelers after originally signing in 2019 after going undrafted out of the University of Central Florida.

He returned the following year after he kicked for a brief period with the XFL's Tampa Bay Vipers. He split time between the Detroit Lions, Jacksonville Jaguars and Kansas City Chiefs before rejoining the Steel City in 2022.

Since then, Wright has kicked for the Chiefs again, the Carolina Panthers, San Francisco 49ers, Atlanta Falcons, New England Patriots and the Panthers again.

His release means that Chris Braswell has locked in the kicking job in Pittsburgh for 2024 after spending last season with the Jaguars.
