The New England Patriots fell in the preseason on Sunday evening 20-10 to Washington in what was the final time we will see the team before they take the field for opening day in just under two weeks.

Rookie quarterback Drake Maye had his most impressive performance of the preseason, finishing 13 of 20 for 126 yards and a touchdown including an 88-yard scoring drive on his first possession of the night. For Maye, the process of becoming the best quarterback he can be is exactly that: a process.

He spoke to media after the performance and was asked to reflect on his camp as a whole now that it has officially come to an end. The rookie gave an eye-opening response when he was asked what the biggest thing he has learned throughout camp has been.

"The biggest thing playing, probably, I learned is just next play mentality," Maye said . "Whether it’s a good play, a bad play, a play you wish you had back. I had a few of those tonight. Let’s move on to the next play. It’s a next play type league. It’s next week type league. In the NFL is what I’m learning. Other than that, just enjoy it. Have fun. It’s sad, but the reality is some of these guys, especially these rookies, are going to be gone come next week. Just enjoy those days with those guys. Creating great memories and enjoy the times out here with the fellas."

It remains to be seen how Jerod Mayo will handle what all of the sudden looks like a true decision at quarterback, but Drake Maye has certainly made his case.
