Indiana Fever star Aliyah Boston was called for a flagrant foul against the Atlanta Dream on Monday.

During the third quarter of the game, Boston was on the post, being guarded by Allisha Gray. Boston was backing down Gray when Tina Charles went onto the block to double-team the Fever center.

Before Charles was able to fully commit to the double team, Boston attempted to go through the gap and use her height advantage over Gray. She picked up the ball and ripped through, connecting with Gray's face.

It was originally called a common foul, but the referees went to the monitor and upgraded the play to a flagrant foul.

Boston then spoke with the officials, telling the referee, "No, it was not," when she was called for the flagrant penalty.

While the play by the 22-year-old didn't seem intentional, she was called for the penalty due to the shot being above the shoulders.

Most fouls in the head and neck area in the NBA or WNBA are often viewed on the monitor for a potential upgrade to a flagrant.

Aliyah Boston has been one of the best players, not just on the Fever, but in the WNBA this season.

The Indiana center has averaged 13.9 points and 9.2 rebounds per game, leading the Fever in average rebounds.

She's helped the Fever secure a comfortable position in the WNBA standings. Heading into their game against the Dream, they held the No. 7 record in the league rankings with a 13-16 record.
