76ers Rookie Overzealous with Stephen Curry Comparison?

    By Lance Roberson,

Typically, when a player gets drafted or patently waits for such an opportunity, analysts and commentators make comparisons. Sometimes, the comparisons are lofty or flat-out wrong when comparing a rookie to legends or All-Stars in the game. However, the Philadelphia 76ers' 16th overall pick, Jared McCain, didn't wait for the comparisons, as he compared himself to NBA stars.

On a recent "Podcast P" episode co-hosted by Paul George, McCain compared himself to Golden State Warriors Stephen Curry and New York Knicks Jalen Brunson.

To McCain's credit, he said he wasn't on their level but aligned himself with them due to their build and approach to the game: “shorter, stockier guards who can affect the game in multiple ways," McCain claimed.

Aside from Curry and Brunson, he also named CJ McCollum and Seth Curry suitable comparisons. On the surface, the comparisons are all over the place, but McCain's college resume warrants Curry's brother mentions at least by efficiency from the 3-point range. McCain converted 41 percent from deep during his time with Duke.

Although McCain is infamously known for ESPN displaying his TikTok footage instead of game tape following Philadelphia's selection of the Duke prospect, the rookie seems in the right place to learn from veterans such as George and Joel Embiid.

Even if he doesn't play in his first year, practicing with a playoff contender will bode well for his career.

However, hopefully, for the rookie's sake, he doesn't lean too much on the Curry comparisons for the duration of the season.
