Clutch Robert Horry 'Hotter than Fish Grease'?

    By Lance Roberson,

Hobert Horry has one more ring than Michael Jordan. Seven rings don't occur as a fluke. The seven-time NBA champion rose to the occasion when necessary. The 2005 NBA Finals, the San Antonio Spurs vs. Detroit Pistons, provided the veteran with one more moment in the sun as a significant contributor. The Former Spurs forward talked about the clutch performance on the "All the Smoke Podcast."

In 2005, the Detroit Pistons were the reigning NBA champions, known for dismantling the dynasty Los Angeles Lakers in five games. Like San Antonio, Detroit made its name on defense, which made for a hard-hitting, low-scoring brand affair on the grandest NBA stage.

It was Game 5 at the Palace of Auburn Hills arena, with the series tied 2-2, Horry recalled the performance, with veteran insight to boot.

"I remember going into halftime in that game, I was like 0-6. What p***** me off more was Pop didn't run one play for me," Horry said .

Horry clarified he's not a player that gets plays assigned to him. Nonetheless, Horry finished with 21 points after sealing a game-winning shot with Tayshuan Prince nearly blocking the attempt.

Gregg Popovich claimed the Spurs would have lost the game without Horry.

"That Detroit team was a beast. You talk about four All-Stars; they played together, and they played great defense. That was a tough team," Horry said of his 2005 NBA Finals opponent.

Horry won seven NBA championships across three franchises. Without Horry's heroics against the Pistons, the Spurs may not have five Larry O'Brien trophies.
