Stephen Curry Sacrifices Ego Not Decency

    By Lance Roberson,

Stephen Curry is a humble superstar. Dirk Nowitzki and Tim Duncan led by example, not the type to disrespect or aggravate teammates, but a destroyer of worlds during the game. Curry mirrored the those superstars. However, Curry took it a step further by opening his arms for MVP Kevin Durant to take the shine and accolades as the Golden State Warriors won championships.

Curry's former teammate Shaun Livingston praised the four-time NBA champion for his humility even as the only unanimous MVP.

"We done been around superstars and the blueprint of what you've seen was Mike, where it's like, get out the way," Livington said on The Knuckleheads podcast. "If you don't want to win, my way, right? And everybody coming after Mike felt like you had to be a certain type of, you know what I'm saying, personality. Kobe was that way in a way, right?"

Although Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant are held in high regard as ultimate competitors, they also have a history of treating teammates with disdain or pure disrespect. Curry competed at the highest levels, but contrary to Jordan and Bryant, no player critiques the four-time NBA champion for such characteristics.

Furthermore, Curry left his ego at the door to win multiple championships, as he sacrificed accolades such as MVP awards, including NBA Finals MVPs. Few superstars would allow another player to "disrupt" their space.

Curry, however, understood what was important and realized that the other "small" rewards would come if you played your cards right. Although Durant "took" the aforementioned accolades, the Warriors fans still perceived the team as Curry's.

The greatness in Curry ins't solely the physical, it's the mental. Seldom does a player shine so bright in their field without a shadow of darkness looming over the feel-good story. Curry displayed you can consistently win without being a perpetual bully.
