Fever Achieve Feat Not Seen Since Caitlin Clark’s Freshman Year in High School

The Indiana Fever continued their strong push for the playoffs on Monday after beating the Atlanta Dream, 84-79.

In the process, the Fever improved to 14-16 to remain in seventh place in the team standings. They also achieved a much-needed milestone: They tallied at least 14 victories for the first time since going 17-17 in 2016.

As IndyStar's Chloe Peterson pointed out in a report, Fever rookie Caitlin Clark was only a freshman in high school at that time.

That year, the Tamika Catchings-led Fever advanced to the playoffs but lost to the Phoenix Mercury in the first round. Since then, the squad endured a string of losing seasons, including going 45-147 from 2017-22.

The Fever turned the tide last season with the arrival of coach Christie Sides and first overall pick Aliyah Boston, winning 13 games. This year, with the entry of Clark, who's also a top overall pick, Indiana has reached higher ground.

"We all feel like we can continue to get better in a lot of ways," said Clark, who starred for Dowling Catholic High School, as quoted by Peterson. "This team is young, has a lot of young talent, and I feel like we're just starting to put it together a little bit."

The 22-year-old firecracker, who's the frontrunner for the Rookie of the Year trophy, had 19 points, seven rebounds and seven assists in their win over the Dream.

The Fever will gun for win No. 15 on Wednesday against the Connecticut Sun.
