Former Giants Receiver John Ross Cut By Eagles

Former New York Giants receiver John Ross was cut by the Philadelphia Eagles on Tuesday, putting a temporary end to his comeback. Ross abruptly retired from the NFL as a member of the Giants in 2021.

Following his retirement, he credited poor mental health and anxiety over his career not turning out the way he thought it would as his reason for leaving the NFL.

The former Washington Huskies star could never get his feet under him in the league. Injuries slowed the speedy receiver as he only played in 37 games in five years.

He signed with the Eagles this offseason attempting to make a comeback but was only able to haul in four passes for 37 yards, all in the final preseason game.

Before this season, Ross held the fastest recorded 40-yard time at the NFL combine with a blazing fast 4.22 seconds. That was surpassed this year by Kansas City Chiefs rookie Xavier Worthy who clocked in at 4.21.

In his one year with the Giants, Ross tallied 11 catches for 224 yards and one touchdown across 10 games.

With some teams still looking to fill out their receiver rooms, Ross could catch on somewhere else. If he doesn’t, this could be the end of the road for the first-round pick.
