The Las Vegas Raiders informed veteran quarterback Nathan Peterman, a familiar face around the league and among fans, that he is being released on Tuesday, according to NFL insider Aaron Wilson.

Drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL draft, Peterman signed with the Raiders in 2018, initially joining their practice squad before being promoted to the active roster. He remained with the team until 2021.

After spending two seasons with the Chicago Bears in 2022 and 2023, Peterman returned to Las Vegas in an attempt to back up quarterback Gardner Minshew for the 2024 NFL season.

Peterman has become well-known around the league for his struggles as a quarterback, particularly during his time with the Buffalo Bills.

His most infamous moment came during a Week 11 game in 2017 when he started in place of veteran quarterback Tyrod Taylor. In that game, Peterman threw five interceptions in the first half, tying an NFL record for the most thrown in a player’s first career start.

Throughout his career, Peterman’s performances have been marked by a high number of interceptions and low completion percentages, making him a frequent target of criticism and jokes from both fans and analysts.

Despite these challenges, Peterman has managed to stay in the NFL as a backup quarterback, showcasing his resilience.

Veteran backup quarterbacks are highly valued in the NFL, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see Peterman land a fresh start with a new team in the near future.
