College Football Fans Stunned By Connor Stalions Documentary

Netflix's highly anticipated documentary centered around the Michigan sign-stealing documentary is making waves on Tuesday.

The scandal, which prompted Big Ten and NCAA investigations, resulted in a three-game suspension of former head coach Jim Harbaugh and took the college football world by storm in the latter half of the 2023 season.

Ex-staffer Connor Stalions was named at the head of the illegal practice, which involved deciphering opposing teams' signals. While that is perfectly legal during a game, or using game film, Stalions and the Wolverines would travel to future opponents games, tape signals from the stands or sidelines, and create a blueprint of signals for matchups.

The new documentary titled "Untold Sign Stealer" features Stalions' account of the situation. It is the first time the former Marine Corps captain has spoken publicly. His side of the story, paired with some newly released evidence, is not a good look for Michigan from a national perspective.

And college football fans are making that loud and clear.

A scene in the nearly one and a half-hour long documentary shows Stalions talking about a game-ball he was awarded by Harbaugh following a win over Iowa in 2022. Harbaugh previously denied knowing about the sign-stealing practice.

"I thought Harbaugh didn’t really know who he was Can this look any worse?! Just wow," a user tweeted.

CBS Sports analyst Danny Kanell believes that Michigan should receive "harsh punishment" for the scandal that "tainted" the Harbaugh era.

"I wanted to hear more details before really having a strong opinion on what Michigan did," Kanell wrote. "But it's clear: They clearly cheated. They have been blatantly lying about the extent of it. They deserve harsh punishment. The entire Harbaugh era at Michigan is tainted."

As one would expect, Ohio State fans are having their fun with the backlash.

“What should the NCAA do with Michigan’s 2023 National Championship banner?" a Buckeyes fan tweeted.

Michigan fans, however, are doubling down on the mindset that the Wolverines are "exonerated" by the details revealed and the 2023 national championship is safe.

"Watched Connor Stalions -- Untold: Sign Stealer on Netflix," a Wolverines fan wrote. "There are two main takeaways: 1.) Michigan is completely exonerated 2.) Connor Stallions is brilliant. He's just smarter than anyone you have on your sideline."

As far as next steps, Michigan received the final version of a notice of allegations from the NCAA on Monday. A potential postseason ban is reportedly in play, according to a report by Chris Balas of TheWolverine.com.
