Golden State Warriors Interested in Brazilian Star After Paris Olympics

The Golden State Warriors have essentially completed their offseason, having filled their roster with competitive players to make another championship run.

Despite Klay Thompson's departure to the Dallas Mavericks, the Warriors managed to secure Buddy Hield, De'Anthony Melton, and Kyle Anderson in free agency, providing key depth alongside Stephen Curry and Draymond Green.

With one roster spot remaining, the Warriors have extended workout invitations to several veterans, including Brazilian star Bruno Caboclo.

While he is contemplating an offer from Hapoel Shlomo Tel Aviv in Israel, Caboclo is also practicing with the Warriors this week, aiming to secure another NBA contract, as reported by Sports Channel in Israel.

His agent, Daniel Hazan, has mentioned that Caboclo will be training with Golden State until Thursday and intends to secure a contract with the team.

Selected 20th overall in the 2014 NBA Draft by the Toronto Raptors, Caboclo started his NBA career in the 2014-15 season as he played for several teams until the 2020-21 campaign. He has not returned to the NBA, opting instead to play professionally in the NBA G League, as well as in Brazil and Serbia.

This summer, he once again played for Brazil at the Summer Olympics in Paris, France. As the Brazilian national team's leader, Caboclo averaged 17.3 points and seven rebounds per game, with a shooting accuracy of 60.5% from the field and 54.5% from beyond the arc across four games.

Despite Brazil's 1-3 record in the tournament and a quarterfinal loss to the United States, Caboclo demonstrated his high-level talent by scoring 30 points and securing six rebounds in the matchup against Team USA.

The 6-foot-9 big man is confident that he has a place in the NBA, and the Warriors appear to be a perfect fit. With a need for depth and experience in their frontcourt, the Warriors also benefit from having Gui Santos on their team. Santos, a fellow Brazilian national team member, shares a close bond with Caboclo, likely influencing Golden State's decision to offer him a workout.

The Warriors might consider giving Caboclo a genuine opportunity to secure a roster position by inviting him to their training camp next month.
