Why Wisconsin Basketball Signee Andrija Vuković Landed at Oklahoma State

After months of speculation, former Wisconsin Badgers basketball signee Andrija Vuković has officially put pen to paper with Oklahoma State.

Vuković initially committed to Greg Gard and the Badgers back in June following his time with KK Vršac in the Serbian Basketball League. The 6-foot-11 big man averaged 6.1 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 0.7 assists per game on 65.8% shooting from the field during his stint there.

Vuković was initially expected to join Wisconsin’s front-court rotation behind starter Steven Crowl and sophomore Nolan Winter.

However, rumblings of "paperwork issues" were said to be preventing Vuković from making it to Madison. Once the Badgers added Italian center Riccardo Greppi into the mix on August 9, it became clear that Vuković was no longer coming, and the program removed his profile from the team site.

While the "paperwork" issue is the official narrative, a source revealed it was actually tied to the Duolingo English scores that Wisconsin requires, which is a language proficiency test used by universities to evaluate non-native English speakers. The Badgers have stricter admission standards than Oklahoma State, who had "more wiggle room" in their process.

Greppi, like Vuković, brings international experience from Italy’s U18 national team and adds solid size that should provide valuable depth behind Crowl and Winter as Wisconsin gears up for the upcoming season.

Credit to the coaching staff for pivoting and finding a viable replacement after things fell through because the backup center has been an issue for this team since Chris Vogt ran out of eligibility after the 2021-22 season.

Coach Gard and the re-tooled Badgers will kick things off with an exhibition game against UW-River Falls on October 30 at the Kohl Center. Wisconsin finished last season with a 22-14 record but fell in the opening round of the 2024 NCAA Tournament to No. 12 James Madison.
