The Washington Commanders shipped receiver Jahan Dotson to the Philadelphia Eagles last week. The move opened a hole in the receiver room that the Commanders are hoping to fill.

One player that may be available is Houston Texans receiver John Metchie III. The third-year man out of Alabama has been pushed down their depth chart, but has shined during the preseason.

One NFL insider believes that the Commanders could try to trade for Metchie.

“Multiple teams have reached out to the Texans to see if WR John Metchie III would be available in trade due to the plethora of receivers on their roster,” writes Jordan Schultz . “It’s unclear if Houston would move him, but several teams are keeping a close eye. The former 2nd-round pick out of Alabama had 10 catches for 100 yards and a TD in the preseason.”

Teams around the league have a deadline of close of business on Tuesday to cut their teams all the way down to a 53-man roster. As the old saying goes:

    Deadlines make deals.

There is plenty of time for the Commanders to put something together with the Texans to bring Metchie to D.C.

The Commanders kick off their season on the road at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday Sept. 8 with kickoff scheduled for 4:25 p.m. EDT.
