The Detroit Tigers have come roaring back to life, finishing their Windy City road trip with a clean sweep of the Chicago White Sox. With this four-game triumph, the Tigers are sitting at the .500 mark for the first time in what feels like ages. If you’ve been waiting for a sign that the Motor City Kitties are ready to roar into the postseason, this might just be it.

Since their series against the Cincinnati Reds in early July, AJ Hinch’s squad has been firing on all cylinders. The revitalized offense, combined with a pitching staff that has defied injuries and inconsistencies, has helped Detroit turn their season around. Now, the Tigers return to Comerica Park to host the Los Angeles Angels for a three-game set, looking to keep their momentum going.

    Angels’ Struggles Meet Tigers’ Resurgence

The Los Angeles Angels, currently languishing at the bottom of the American League West, are 16 games behind the Houston Astros and two games behind the Oakland Athletics. Their recent form has been less than stellar, as they've lost their last five games and were swept in a four-game series by the Toronto Blue Jays. With this in mind, they arrive in Detroit in desperate need of a turnaround.

    Tigers' Edge in the Series

As the Tigers prepare for this series, they should be confident in their ability to continue their winning ways. While sweeping the White Sox might not be a monumental achievement, Detroit has been trending upward since that series. The Angels' offensive struggles are evident, ranking 26th in OPS (.674) and 27th in runs scored (515). On the pitching side, their ERA is 27th (4.58) and their WHIP is 25th (1.32).

In comparison, the Tigers are ranked 23rd in OPS (.687) and 19th in runs scored (562), but they excel in pitching, ranking 10th in ERA (3.83), third in WHIP (1.20), and tied for ninth in batting average against (.238). This suggests that the Tigers should be able to keep the Angels from scoring and put up a few runs themselves.

With an exciting series ahead, fans can look forward to seeing if the Tigers can extend their winning streak and make a push as the 2024 season winds down.
