The New York Knicks had a very eventful offseason in 2022, but it was almost even more eventful, as they almost brought back a franchise legend.

In the most recent episode of 7PM in Brooklyn podcast , former Knicks All-Star Carmelo Anthony revealed that he almost signed back with the team in 2022, but it ended up falling through because he did not know what his role would be.

"My goal was always to make it back, Anthony said. "The not knowing of when you're going to play, I would rather not go through that... I had to stand on that."

Melo was coming off of a solid year with the Los Angeles Lakers, but the Knicks were still in talks with the Utah Jazz to trade for Donovan Mitchell at the time, so he was hesitant.

If Mitchell had joined the Knicks, that would have definitely limited the kind of role that Melo would have had. But the team did not end up trading for him, and instead brought in Jalen Brunson that July.

Even though the stars didn't align and that was the last season Melo played in the league, he will always be known as one of the greatest players in Knicks history.
