Former Grizzlies player shares how Ja Morant is really off the court

There were a lot of embattled things thrown at Ja Morant after all of the personal scandals and controversies he committed last year. Many still constantly rip his attitude, and some continue to question his morals off the court.

But in the end, the Memphis Grizzlies star is only just a person who commits mistakes. Ziaire Williams stands as one of the key people who can testify that Morant is much greater than what people can imagine or try to paint against.

Commendable on and off the court

Both Williams and Morant share a solid and unbreakable friendship. Upon entering the Grizzlies camp in 2021, the former Stanford star quickly identified a brotherhood relationship with Ja. Since then, they've been through the ups and downs in Memphis.

When Williams got traded by the team last July, Morant delivered a heartwarming X post as a tribute for Ziaire, indicating that their bond will still extend beyond the court even if they're not teammates anymore.

Amidst the widespread negative perceptions held by the majority against Ja, Ziaire set the record straight in a recent interview with HoopsHype, asserting that the Grizzlies superstar is a genuine one of great character.

“He flew all the way from Memphis just to come to my camp,” said Williams . “As great as he is on the court, he’s even ten times better off the court.”

Ready to run it back

The past year's struggles and scandals have completely humbled Morant to change for the better. He already took full responsibility for his wrongdoings, and it's great to see how Ziaire stood up for him like a good friend.

As such, Ja will certainly aim at the forthcoming 2024-25 season as another means to redeem himself. Healthy, rejuvenated, and motivated, the Grizzlies can't help but feel thrilled to follow his lead again on their goal to be back on track and title contention.
