Naomi Osaka’s US Open Outfit Is Turning Heads

Japanese tennis player Naomi Osaka advanced to the second round of the US Open on Tuesday afternoon after defeating the tenth-ranked Jelena Ostapenko. Her win marked her first victory at the tournament in three years.

In the first-round match, Osaka appeared for warm-ups in a unique outfit - one never before seen in the world of tennis.

Before stepping away from the sport in 2022 for health and maternity reasons, she was ranked as the world's No. 1 player. The four-time Grand Slam winner made her WTA Tour debut at the age of 16 and has won the Australian Open and US Open twice each.

Osaka's custom outfit stems from a collaboration between Nike and world-renowned fashion designer Yoon Ahn. The line is called Nike Women by Yoon and is designed to complement Osaka's playing style. While many athletes choose traditional athletic wear, Osaka opted for something a little more trendy.

The outfit was designed in a style that reflects the fashion and culture associated with the Harajuku District in Tokyo.

"The inspiration that fueled the look for me - and this might be a Japanese term - is feeling like a 'magical girl' on the court," Osaka stated.

Ahn currently holds the position of jewelry design director at Dior Homme and is the creative director of AMBUSH. Throughout the years, she has collaborated with several well-known companies such as Louis Vuitton, Off-White, and Sacai.

Ahn shared her perspective on her creation for Osaka:

"We live in a girl's world, and I wanted to embody that in Naomi's on-court look...," Ahn said. "The collection is an extension of that idea, allowing women to bring out their character and enhance their own personal styles."
