Three years ago, Simone Biles was forced to pull out of the Tokyo Olympics because of her mental health. The decorated U.S. gymnast had no other choice but to leave the competition altogether after experiencing the "twisties," which is an unexplained phenomenon wherein athletes lose coordination mid-air.

At that point, the risks were too high for Simone to continue, especially after she felt that carrying on would mean putting her career and her life in jeopardy.

This is exactly why Biles' accomplishments in the recently concluded 2024 Paris Olympics are even more astounding. After the nightmare of Tokyo, Simone came back with a bang as she proved to the world that she is still the best gymnast on the planet.

Biles took the competition by storm, and this resulted in four more medals -- gold in the individual all-around, team all-around, and vault finals and a silver in the floor final -- upping her tally to 11 Olympic medals.

By her own admission, however, there was no shortage of stressful moments throughout the Olympics. Speaking to American gymnastics icon Aly Raisman in an exclusive interview, Biles spoke honestly about the feeling of relief she has now that the Summer Games have ended.

"Actually, arriving in Paris, I felt this sense of calm that I've never had before for a competition," Biles said. "But I think we're so prepared and we're ready, and the hard part is over, and now this is the easy part -- [not] physically, more mentally. But once I got to the village, I think that's when all the nerves set in .

"So, going into it, not as nervous. Coming out, it's just like a breath of fresh air. I feel so much better now that it's over because you know how stressful it is. So I just couldn't wait to be done. But I was still trying to cherish every single moment along the way."

There were some massive expectations on Biles coming into the Games, and the fact that she lived up to all of them despite all the physical and mental strain is a true testament to her character.

Not only is Simone one of the greatest athletes of her generation but there's also no doubt that her fortitude and ability to perform under immense pressure are what make her even greater.
