The Los Angeles Angels have made significant roster changes, moving outfielder Mike Trout to the 60-day injured list and promoting right-hander Ryan Miller from Triple-A Salt Lake.

Trout's season is effectively over after he tore his meniscus for the second time. This move to the 60-day IL is a procedural step that allows the Angels to add Miller to the major league roster.

Trout initially sustained his injury on April 29 against the Philadelphia Phillies and underwent surgery on May 3. After a lengthy rehabilitation, he began a rehab assignment on July 24 but had to stop after just two innings due to knee discomfort.

Trout's injury history has been extensive over the past five years. He missed 80 games last season due to a fractured left hamate and played only 36 games in 2021 because of a right calf strain. This year, he has appeared in just 29 games.

In addition to Trout's move, the Angels placed left-hander Matt Moore on the 15-day injured list after he left a game against the Blue Jays with an elbow injury.

This was his first outing in six days, and he had not allowed multiple runs in a game since mid-July. The Angels have not yet disclosed the severity of Moore's injury.

Moore's performance this season has been inconsistent, with his earned run average fluctuating from 6.03 to 4.69 before his recent outing, which pushed it back up to 5.03. He returned to the Angels on a one-year, $9 million deal in January and has a career record of 71-66 with a 4.39 ERA.

Ryan Miller, 28, is set to make his MLB debut after being drafted by the Diamondbacks in 2018. He joined the Angels through the minor league phase of last year’s Rule 5 Draft and has been impressive, posting a 2.45 ERA over 62.1 innings.

Miller played college baseball at Clemson, where he recorded an 8-1 record with a 2.59 ERA before being drafted.

These roster moves come as the Angels look to navigate the remainder of the season without their star player while giving opportunities to new talent.
