Buccaneers 'Excited' To See How Liam Coen's Offense 'Comes Together'

If the first drive from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers offense against the Miami Dolphins told us anything, it's that Liam Coen's system looks good...really good.

Now, yes, it was in the preseason, so we aren't exactly sure how much stock to take in it, but Baker Mayfield (3/3, 54 yards) and Rachaad White (4 att, 16 yards, 1 TD) played key roles in the offense's ability to walk down the field and score.

This has to give the Buccaneers confidence that all the work done this offseason is already bearing fruit.

But again, it's preseason, and receiver Chris Godwin wants to see the offense when it's all gas and no brakes in the regular season.

“I'm most excited just to see how it all comes together because we really only got the one drive in the preseason,” Godwin said . “We moved it really effectively but it'll be nice to get Mike [Evans] out there, be nice to actually game plan for a team and see how we can actually take advantage of some of the things that they do. But also what our halftime adjustments look like. It'd be cool to see how Liam’s play calling is in games and how he adjusts. Then just pairing that with what the defense is doing, they got a lot of good players over there obviously, Lavonte [David] leading them, we got players all over the field. So it's going to be really crucial for us to get a hot start.”

The Buccaneers offense is an interesting proposition in 2024. There are many weapons to cover in Mayfield, coupled with White, Sean Tucker , Bucky Irving, Mike Evans, Godwin, Trey Palmer, Kameron Johnson, Cade Otten, and Payne Durham.

With the Buccaneers having a top-10 defense in 2023 if they can maintain the status quo while the offense improves even slightly, the 2024 season could be fruitful for the defending NFC South champs.

Of course, there are plenty of detractors, with many thinking the Atlanta Falcons will steamroll the division with a 35-year-old Kirk Cousins at the helm, but don't forget about the Buccaneers.

They have more than enough weapons on both sides of the ball to be a problem in 2024.
