Commanders Called 'Toxic' By Former Edge Rusher Montez Sweat

The Washington Commanders have had no shortage of controversies over the years under Dan Snyder's ownership.

A common occurrence for the organization, though, has been former players of the organization talking about the many reasons why the Commanders have struggled over the years.

In the case of former edge rusher Montez Sweat, his reasoning was pretty straightforward.

“It was a toxic, heavy toll, just losing and people around you being kinda OK with losing,” Sweat told the Chicago Sun-Times .. “It could sometimes rub off on you. You’ve gotta stay hungry and know that you want to win.”

Sweat calling the Commanders toxic is hardly new for the organization that has dealt with a crumbling infrastructure of a stadium, a former owner with sexual harassment allegations, and coaches on other teams being terminated as part of an investigation into the franchise.

Under new management and ownership, though, the Commanders are hoping the significant changes made will alter their win total in a big way moving forward.

When Sweat and the Bears face off against Washington in Week 8, not only will the former Pro Bowler get the opportunity to show how much better he has it now, but also the Commanders have a chance to show how the team has changed from previous years.
