Stephen Curry and LeBron James' reactions to winning gold said it all. "This is as good as it's going to get," at least that's what their faces said. They relished the moment, soaking in the Olympic gold medal ceremonies. Their respective teams are on the lower end of playoff seeding, although they are likely to compete in the Western Conference

The Golden State Warriors lost Klay Thompson, a cherished member of the championship team. Furthermore, the Warriors are no longer a superstar-attracting franchise. Perhaps Golden State struck gold in 2016 during the salary cap spike by signing Kevin Durant. It seems the Warriors lost their "Lights Years" batteries.

Curry averaged 26 points on outstanding shooting metrics but to no avail. We are past Warriors blowing teams out of the water era. The magic remains, but the lamp possibly received its last rub.

Draymond Green is the second-best player on the Warriors. Such roster construction won't lead to a promising finish. The Western Conference is improving to the point of knocking out the legends from the conversation.

Curry and James are in the same boat—the two biggest stars in the game—but they are nearing irrelevancy in the championship conversation.

Last season, the Warriors missed the playoffs with 46 wins, and the Lakers received a 4-1 first-round knockout after noticing 47 victories.
