Former Wisconsin Football Quarterback Named Starter at UConn

Quarterback Nick Evers transferred from the Wisconsin football program to UConn during the spring after staying buried on the depth chart.

The former 4-star quarterback transferred to Wisconsin from Oklahoma as a raw player but loaded with potential. Unfortunately, Evers couldn't gain any traction in the quarterback battle, sitting behind Tanner Mordecai and Braedyn Locke, splitting third-team snaps with Myles Burkett.

After transferring to UConn, Evers was part of a position battle with three other quarterbacks, but according to a report from Joe Arruda from the Hartford Courant , head coach Jim Mora knew Evers would be the starter a few weeks ago.

“Nick’s our starter, and we’re going to throw all our support behind him and we’re gonna put him in a position to win,” Mora said. “And we know that Joe (Fagnano) and Tucker (McDonald) and Cole (Welliver) are ready to go if there is a reason to.”

Evers beat out Fagnano, who played in two games for the Huskies last year, throwing for 173 yards and an interception and completing 51.4 percent of his passes.

Wisconsin fans often heard about Evers' talent and potential, but never got a chance to see him and his playmaking ability on the field. With a fresh start at UConn, a program that is coming off a 3-9 season and finished 121st in points per game in the country.

The Huskies were in dire need of a player who could make plays and potentially found that in the portal with Evers.
