Chiefs Acquire Fan-Favorite Quarterback in Latest Roster Move

Former New England Patriots starting quarterback Bailey Zappe is signing with the Kansas City Chiefs' practice squad according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz.

Zappe was unexpectedly released by the Patriots on Tuesday as they finalized their roster for the 2024 NFL season.

During his time in New England, Zappe started in eight games, posting a 4-4 record.

He’s thrown for 2,053 yards, 11 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions during his two years with the Patriots.

In his rookie season in 2022, when Mac Jones was injured, Zappe stepped in and won both games, sparking a bit of a quarterback controversy in New England but also becoming a fan favorite during the process.

However, the success didn’t fully carry over, as in 2023 he completed less than 60 percent of his passes, throwing six touchdowns and nine interceptions.

It was up in the air if Zappe might return to the Patriots' practice squad if he cleared waivers, questioning if the team still saw some potential in retaining him as a backup option within their organization.

However, Kansas City quickly acted and signed him, providing Zappe with a unique opportunity to learn under Patrick Mahomes, arguably the greatest quarterback in today's game, and to become part of a team that is coming off back-to-back Super Bowl victories.

This environment will provide Zappe with valuable experience and mentorship from players like Mahomes and legendary coaches like Andy Reid, helping him develop his skills within one of the NFL’s most successful franchises.
