Joe Andreessen is a native of the Buffalo area and even played football for the Bulls in his final year of college eligibility in 2023. Despite going undrafted, Andreessen joined his hometown Bills in an attempt to join his favorite franchise.

After a successful training camp and preseason slate, the 24-year-old has not only made the Bills 53-man roster but completed a goal that appeared almost unreachable over a month ago.

Due to the organization's depth at the linebacker position, Andreessen seemed like a player on the outside looking in at linebacker.

A torn biceps injury to All-Pro Matt Milano appeared to be the difference for the Bills in allowing "Buffalo Joe" to make the roster.

Instead, after being a practice squad player, though, Andreessen appears to be the immediate backup to Dorian Williams at the WILL position. He has experience at the MIKE spot, but his athleticism and knowledge of the game should allow him to be a competent player when it comes to the Bills' overall defense.

In the case of head coach Sean McDermott, his strong history of developing young and unproven talent could very well help Andreessen show he belongs in an NFL locker room well past just the backup role.
