Florida State head coach Mike Norvell faced intense scrutiny after his team's upset loss to Georgia Tech in the season opener.

Now, Norvell is breaking his silence on what he called a "sickening" loss.

The No. 10 Seminoles were heavily favored going into last week's game, which was played in Dublin, Ireland. But Florida State struggled to contain Georgia Tech on the ground, giving up 190 rushing yards, and Georgia Tech completed the 24-21 upset when kicker Aidan Birr connected on a 44-yard field goal as time expired.

With the team back in Tallahassee, Norvell spoke to reporters on Wednesday and delivered some blunt criticism of his own preparations for the team.

"It's sickening that we came up short and I take total responsibility and ownership for that," Norvell said . "It's my job to have the team prepared to go and play to the best of our ability. I don't believe that was our best."

Norvell took much of the blame from fans, with many calling for his dismissal after the game. The Seminoles will have the chance to get the season back on track with another ACC game. They host Boston College on September 2.
