Auston Matthews-Connor McDavid Workout Triggers Wild Maple Leafs Recruitment Buzz

Toronto Maple Leafs star Auston Matthews and Edmonton Oilers forward Connor McDavid are two of the best players in the game today, but they also don't have their names etched on the Stanley Cup Trophy either.

The two NHL superstars were spotted working out together on the ice in Munich , leading to several fans speculating about a potential team-up in the future, particularly in Toronto.

It's hard to imagine either Matthews or McDavid getting traded anytime soon to form such an unbelievable duo. Matthews signed a four-year extension deal with Toronto last year and recently got named the team's newest captain. McDavid, on the other hand, is still at the height of his hockey powers, albeit with no ring to show for it.

Edmonton came close to winning the Cup last season when they took the Florida Panthers to seven games in the Stanley Cup Finals. With arguably the best player on the planet on their team, the Oilers can keep believing that they will finally win the Cup soon.

The three-time Hart Memorial Trophy winner, however, will be a free agent in the summer of 2026, when he will still be just 29 years old.

If Maple Leafs fans want to see McDavid in a Maple Leafs uniform, 2026 seems to be the best time for Toronto to make that happen.

McDavid recorded 132 points (32 goals, 100 assists) in the 2023-24 season, while Matthews had 107 points (69 goals, 38 assists).
