Steelers Take Hit On Offensive Line: Isaac Seumalo Out

During the preseason, the Pittsburgh Steelers offensive line was pretty shoddy in protection. And things now threaten to get a little bit worse.

The anchor on their offensive line is veteran left guard Isaac Seumalo.

On Wednesday, Seumalo left practice with an apparent pectoral injury, and the NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported that Seumalo will miss four weeks with the injury.

The former Oregon State standout is entering the second year of a three-year deal he signed with Pittsburgh in March of 2023. The injury will definitely create some issues in the middle of the line.

The two options the Steelers have available are last year’s seventh-round pick Spencer Anderson or this year’s fourth-round rookie Mason McCormick.

Seumalo’s loss could mean the Steelers start the season with three rookies along the offensive line in McCormick, center Zach Frazier and tackle Troy Fautanu.

Right tackle Broderick Jones was the No. 14 overall pick in last year’s draft, but hasn’t progressed like the Steeler thought he would. They wanted him to be the starting left tackle, but his struggles at that position are well-documented.

Fautanu could start at left tackle in Week 1 if he’s healthy, leaving the entire left side of the line as rookies until Seumalo returns.

The Steelers have time to make moves and decisions on their offensive line, but right now, there is a lot of youth and inexperience up front for Pittsburgh.
