Week 1 of College Football kicks off Thursday night with a handful of primetime matches, which carry over into the weekend. Nonetheless, David Pollack shared some intriguing players he feels are not being talked about enough entering the 2024 season.
For some context, the meaning behind 'David's Dudes' is to highlight one player from each conference that stands out on tape, that could truly be a difference-maker on the field.
These are players that could win player of the year in their respective conferences in the eyes of Pollack.
David Pollack's 'Dudes' of the year
4. WR, Jeremiah Smith, Ohio State
Jeremiah Smith is the next big-time receiver at Ohio State . He has been announced already as a starter as a freshman, which is unprecedented at Ohio State.
Pollack shared a quote that he received about Smith that read, "I haven't seen a player like this guy since Julio Jones/AJ Green."
Smith was the number one ranked player in the class of 2024 and was one of the highest recruits in recent memory at the receiver position.
It will be interesting to see if the Buckeyes throw the ball enough to get him the production he desires, but the upside is immense for Jeremiah Smith.
Harris is easily one of the best wide receivers in the country, and last season he tallied 54 receptions for 985 yards and eight touchdowns.
"If you watched last year, you saw Tre Harris." Pollack said.
His skillset is extremely unique. He is a serious playmaker and had six touchdowns in three games to end the season. This could be a huge season for Harris.
Last season, Johnson started one game, which was the Pop-Tarts Bowl against NC State , and in a 28-19 win, he threw for 178 yards, two touchdowns, and maintained a 94.8 QBR.
If he can keep the Wildcats afloat in the Big 12 and have the season that many are expecting him to have for Kansas State, he could very well lead them into the College Football Playoffs.
"Cam Ward, elusive playmaker; he has the ability to throw the ball all over the field." Pollack uttered.
Last season, Ward threw for 3,735 yards, 25 touchdowns, and just seven interceptions. He completed 323 of 485 passes thrown.
Ward's experience is what could lead him to be extremely effective. This is his second time transferring; he's played in big games, and he's faced adversity. This will be his biggest opportunity yet.
All of these players are guys who will have extremely prominent roles on their teams this season and all four could be what brings there programs to the next level. Must-see TV when they're on the field.
All four of these players are 'dudes' in the eyes of David Pollack, and he will continue to do 'dudes' of the week as well throughout the season.
