'Hug It Out!' Inside 'Businessman Chat' Between CeeDee & Jerry

FRISCO - It's a time-proven tradition inside the world of Jerry Jones, and generations of Dallas Cowboys players have benefited.

When an old billionaire talks, a young millionaire should listen.

After CeeDee Lamb agreed to his new four-year, $136 million deal, he revealed that he engaged with Jones in what the receiver called a "businessman chat.''

And while many observers scratched their heads over that, dozens of former Cowboys didn't scratch their heads - they knowingly nodded them.

Part of what Jones told Lamb: “You’re gonna be dealing with huge amounts of money. Be careful. Look under the hood. Give it a lot of consideration as you make decisions ... You don’t have to be smart to make money. You do have to be real smart to keep it.''

Added Jerry about his long-standing belief that this is his role as the paterfamilias of the Cowboys: "Any way that I can help a player in any way keep it, put me in coach.”

Those who don't know Jones and his relationship with his players are suggesting that the 81-year-old owner is "lecturing'' Lamb. That ain't it. Those same people have assumed that from "no urgency'' to "LOL'' to "Evil Spider-Man'' that there is deep conflict here. That ain't it, either, as exhibited by the scene that unfolded this week when Lamb ended his holdout and took to the practice field here inside The Star ...

As he and Jerry "hugged it out.''

To Lamb's credit, he's following the path of Cowboys greats before him. He gets his money. He gets advice. He gets it.

“We had a businessman conversation,” Lamb said. “Just had to clear the room. Everything is behind us. I’m not worried about nothing. We got what we needed to get done. Now, it’s time for me to go ball.”
