The New York Giants are entering the season with three quarterbacks on their roster. Backup Tommy DeVito, who performed admirably for the team last year, is back. Free agent quarterback Drew Lock is also back.

The most important update for the Giants is that quarterback Daniel Jones is back after suffering an ACL tear that ended his season a year ago.

In speaking to reporters, Giants general manager Joe Schoen addressed the quarterback room and Jones’ progress.

“There’s always been some injuries with quarterbacks as is. I think it is the way things went last year,” Schoen said. “We like where Tommy is. Drew had the injury, unfortunately. We’re going to continue to work with him. Daniel, we just think it’s probably the best thing to do right now with us.”

Schoen isn’t wrong. All three of their starters last year were injured at some point in the season. The Cleveland Browns used five quarterbacks last season due to injuries as well. It’s always good to have a capable backup on hand.

The Giants GM also gave an update on Jones.

“From what you guys have seen, Daniel early on, there was a little bit of rust. I thought he really picked it up and had a good camp,” Schoen continued. “I understand maybe there’s a throw he would have wanted back in the Houston game.

“I thought overall, when you step back and look at the game, if you want to look through that lens, I do think he had a good camp. Again, in the Houston game, I thought he played well.”

Jones led the Giants to a 9-win season in 2022 and the playoffs. The Giants fell to 6-11 last season. Their goal is to return to the playoffs this season.
