New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll addressed the ongoing speculation surrounding Evan Neal’s position, reaffirming the team's decision to keep him at right tackle as he recovers from offseason ankle surgery. Despite fan calls for Neal to move inside to guard after two challenging seasons, Daboll made it clear the Giants are not considering a change for now.

When asked directly if the Giants had thought about giving Neal reps at guard, Daboll replied with a simple “no.”

He elaborated, saying , “Because we have enough guards. He needs to continue to work at right tackle.”

The Giants’ current roster supports this strategy, boasting ten offensive linemen, including Jon Runyan Jr. and Greg Van Roten as the starting guards, and several others with guard experience.

Neal, who has spent the summer focused solely on right tackle, will begin the season as a backup behind Jermaine Eluemunor. However, there could be opportunities for him to take practice reps at left tackle in the coming weeks, as general manager Joe Schoen hinted.

“We’ll work through that probably next week,” said Schoen. “We’re still doing good on good here, the Giant stuff we need to correct on.”

Daboll has repeatedly emphasized the importance of positional flexibility for backup offensive linemen. Yet, for now, the Giants remain committed to Neal’s development at right tackle, with no guarantees of a switch to guard.

As the Giants prepare for their Week 1 opener against the Minnesota Vikings , Neal’s future role remains a subject of interest. But for those hoping to see him at guard, the wait continues, with no promises it will happen at all.
