Jalen Hurts Addresses Rumored Tension with Eagles Coach Nick Sirianni

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts is gearing up for what many could be a defining season in his young career.

After leading the Eagles to the Super Bowl in 2022, Hurts wants nothing but more than another crack at the title. He's not just a rising star but also a leader with a chip on his shoulder.

After a strong start last season, the Eagles spiraled down the stretch, punctuated by an exit in the first round of the playoffs after losing to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Earlier this month, ESPN's Tim McManus and Jeremy Fowler reported that "things were off" between Hurts and Eagles coach Nick Sirianni last season. Citing anonymous sources, the report noted that the "prolonged strain" adversely impacted the team's campaign.

When asked about it, plus the other negative remarks about him, Hurts simply brushed them off.

“I don’t think that’s anything that I’m ever going to try and prove to anyone," the two-time Pro Bowler said in a report from Andscape's Martenzie Johnson . "(I’m) just going to take it one day at a time and continue to walk my journey.

"I’ve always valued eliminating external factors and redirecting my focus on keeping the main thing the main thing, that’ll never change.”

With a souped-up Eagles roster , particularly the addition of running back Saquon Barkley, the 26-year-old Hurts is expected to take another leap forward.

Last season, he threw for 3,858 yards and 23 touchdowns—both career-highs. Known for his dual-threat capability, he also scored a career-best 15 touchdowns.

He, however, needs to fully buy into Sirianni's vision for the team if he wants to return to the Super Bowl. He's learned to tune out what others think, maintaining that he and Sirianni have "mutual respect for one another" and they are in a "great space."

“People don’t know that they don’t know," Hurts said, turning philosophical. "People don’t know what they don’t know.”
