Celtics Star Jayson Tatum Points Out Harsh Reality About Impending Ring Night

After winning a gold medal with Team USA in the Paris Olympics, Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum is looking forward to getting another shiny hardware: His NBA ring.

Tatum and the rest of the defending champion Celtics will receive championship rings in their first game of the new season on Oct. 22 against the New York Knicks.

According to a report from The Athletic's Jared Weiss , the Celtics were fitted for their rings two weeks ago. But for the 26-year-old Tatum, they shouldn't be too consumed by the glitz and admiration during their ring night.

“I’m of the mindset that after ring night, in a weird way, we got to put that behind (us),” said Tatum in the report. “Last year was last year. We did it. It was a dream come true. We worked our ass off for it.

"But after ring night, we gotta move on. We gotta get ready for game two.”

Tatum has continued to evolve into a more complete player, averaging a career-high 4.9 assists last season, while also becoming a more reliable on-ball defender. He also put up 26.9 points and 8.1 rebounds per game.

While he lost to running mate Jaylen Brown as Finals MVP, many saluted Tatum for his all-around play, including providing intangibles, in their championship series against the Dallas Mavericks.

He said he's already past the issue of his bench role with Team USA and the Celtics' previous shortcomings. While they maintained their championship core, Tatum is staying even-keeled about the future.

“I’m always a glass-half-full type of guy,” said the five-time All-Star. “I always believe everything happens for a reason and whatever that is, I don’t know yet. But I’m certain I’ll find out.”
