Shohei Ohtani and his dog, Decoy, made a memorable appearance at Dodger Stadium on August 28, 2024, during a special bobblehead giveaway night.

The Los Angeles Dodgers faced off against the Baltimore Orioles, and the event drew a crowd of 53,290 fans eager to see the MLB star and his four-legged companion.

Before the game, Ohtani and Decoy participated in a ceremonial first pitch. Ohtani carried Decoy to the mound, where the dog picked up the ball and ran to Ohtani, who was waiting at home plate. The crowd erupted in cheers as the duo shared a playful high five.

“I think I was more nervous with the ceremonial pitch than Decoy,” Ohtani said through his interpreter. “I’m glad everything went well.

“It’s a really special night. I hope to buy some special snack for him.”

Ohtani had been training Decoy for this moment, practicing for three weeks to ensure everything went smoothly according to ESPN .

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts expressed admiration for Decoy's training, noting that it was impressive given Ohtani's reputation.

“I’m impressed that that dog was already that trained, but I guess if it’s Shohei’s dog, nothing should be surprising,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said.

On this night, fans received a special treat: 40,000 bobbleheads featuring Ohtani holding Decoy, with about 2,000 of them being gold editions. Many fans arrived hours early to secure their collectible.

In the game itself, Ohtani continued to shine, hitting a home run and stealing two bases, contributing to the Dodgers' 6-4 victory.

With this performance, he now has 42 home runs and 42 stolen bases this season, inching closer to joining the exclusive 50-50 club, a feat never accomplished in MLB history.
