NBA Legend Doesn't Hold Back on Luka Doncic Amid Lakers' Reported Interest

The Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly setting their sights on Dallas Mavericks guard Luka Doncic as a potential successor to LeBron James, who is nearing the end of his illustrious career.

With his talent and charisma, Doncic is among the league's brightest superstars . He could be a perfect fit for arguably the NBA's most popular and most marketable squad.

At 25 years old, Doncic has only scratched the surface of his career. He just made it to his first NBA Finals last season. Possibly moving to Los Angeles could give him more opportunities to shine on and off the court.

But for NBA legend Robert Horry, getting Doncic doesn't make much sense for the Lakers.

"He ain't the best defensive player now, and that's the Lakers' problem," Horry said on the "Big Shot Bob" podcast. "You gotta have some athletic guys that can play some defense."

Horry, who won three of his seven NBA rings with the Lakers, also had a hilarious quip about Doncic.

"Luka, he can score with the best of them, but you also know you've got to take beers out of his hand because he ain't going to stay in shape," Horry added.

"He's going to be good, but he ain't going to be what you need, probably."

Doncic is currently on a five-year, $215 million contract extension he signed during the 2022-23 season with a player option for the final year for the 2026-27 season. If he does not sign a supermax extension before that, the Lakers could throw everything at him as a free agent.

However, it is difficult to see the Mavericks giving up Doncic, especially with owner Mark Cuban often saying he plans to keep the five-time All-NBA First Team member for a very long time.
