Cowboys, Jerry Jones Blasted by Multiple NFL Agents

They may be the NFL's most valuable franchise with a net worth over $10 billion, but the Dallas Cowboys aren't held in the highest regard by all player representatives around the league.

On Thursday, August 29, The Athletic released its sixth annual NFL agents survey and the Cowboys took it on the chin a few times.

Dallas was tied for the third-most votes (3) as the NFL's "most unstable franchise," with one agent sharing, "I don’t think they want to win above all. Jerry (Jones) wants to turn profits and make headlines. I think the game has passed him by."

Opinions on whether Dallas will reach a new contract with star quarterback Dak Prescott were also split, with multiple reps placing blame directly on Jones for the ongoing stalemate.

"The Cowboys got themselves into a mess," one agent told The Athletic. "That’s what happens when the owner gets too involved and becomes friends with the players."

Another added, "The Cowboys don’t have any hierarchy. Always a day late and a dollar short in free agency. You have to go through 30 layers of bureaucratic process to get anything done — and you know why."

Cowboys fans shouldn't expect a change at the top anytime soon, though. In a spitfire interview published on August 25 by longtime reporter Clarence Hill Jr, the 81-year-old Jones put his truth out there.

"So hell no, there’s nobody that could f****** come in here and do all the contracts … and be a GM any better than I can," Jones said. "“Plus, I’m where the buck stops. When it f**** up, I got to cover it."

Dallas is days removed from inking No. 1 wide receiver CeeDee Lamb to a four-year, $136 million extension. But, the days are running out before the September 8 opener if the franchise wants to lock in Prescott long term.
