With former Pro Bowl cornerback turned safety James Bradberry being placed on injured reserve, the Philadelphia Eagles needed to make a corresponding roster move to get their team back to 53.

Philadelphia opted to add a player to bolster their linebacking and special teams room instead of bringing in another safety.

Oren Burks was called up to the active roster Thursday afternoon as the corresponding roster moved to Bradberry going on IR. Burks signed a free-agent deal with the Eagles this offseason after a two-year run with the San Francisco 49ers.

Burks was considered a player to compete for a starting linebacker role and special teams spot but struggled with injuries early in training camp.

The 29-year-old was released by the team Tuesday as they made their first round of cuts to get the roster down to 53 players.

Burks succeeded later in camp and the preseason for the Eagles and showed prowess in Vic Fangio's defense overall. He will join the likes of Devin White, Zack Baun, Nakobe Dean, Jeremiah Trotter Jr., and  Ben VanSumeren.

Burks' skillset as a special teams ace should be able to bolster his chances of staying on the team moving forward even should Bradberry return sooner than expected.
