Chiefs' Veteran Safety Justin Reid Overpaid?

Free safety Justin Reid has been an integral part of the Kansas City Chiefs' secondary the last two seasons, and the team gave him a sizable contract whenever he first came to them.

In a recent article by Bleacher Report's Ryan Fowler , he puts together what he believes is the NFL's All-Overpaid Team. At the safety position, he has Reid, as he thinks he doesn't do anything at the "elite" level that would warrant his contract.

"Justin Reid is a serviceable defender in Kansas City... However, there's nothing currently in the 27-year-old's game that can be qualified as elite," Fowler writes. "While Chiefs GM Brett Veach is one of the NFL's brightest decision-makers... paying Reid roughly $10.5 million per year (13th-highest AAV among NFL safeties) seems a bit of stretch for what he offers on a week-to-week basis."

Reid has never made it to the Pro Bowl in his career, but that in no way means that he is not invaluable to the Chiefs and their secondary.

He finished this past season with a very solid 95 total tackles, 74 of them being solo. He was also able to get three sacks, an interception, and defend seven passes, therefore showing his versatility.

Some might say that the Chiefs are paying Reid too much, but clearly something is working, because the team is chasing their third straight Super Bowl this season.
